Grace Yao Turkis

Expert Practitioner

“Grace has an impressive ability to ask thoughtful questions that elicit meaningful self-reflection to further personal and organizational growth. She acknowledges strengths and offers encouragement so that each voice is heard.”

Grace brings more than 20 years of experience in leadership development in both education and health care settings. A certified Co-Active coach, she is passionate about helping people integrate their unique experiences, interests, and talents to reach their full professional potential. In addition to her work as a leadership coach and facilitator, she is the Director of Leadership & Professional Development for the RISE Office of the UC Berkeley School of Public Health, where she designs and facilitates leadership courses and workshops for graduate students. Grace also serves on the advisory board of Home for a Home, a nonprofit organization that partners with socially-oriented real estate professionals to sustainably fund the construction of homes for people in need in Guatemala.

Grace approaches leadership development from the belief that every individual can engage in transformational change through a wide variety of roles and approaches regardless of sector, location, or position. What is considered effective leadership may vary across different times, populations, and cultural contexts. However, what holds consistent and foundational across these domains is creating a vision, knowing oneself, and drawing on personal values. Grace’s work is centered on the importance of leading from the inside out and helping individuals recognize the importance of self-discovery and continual learning from both successes and missteps. She believes clients learn best when actively engaged in finding solutions to real-world problems.
